RETAILERS LINKS

The one group that has often been overlooked for their responsibility
in the pet food contamination tragedy is the retailers. Many have used
the same tired old answer, "We don't make it. We just sell it."

Why do retailers need "store-brands" anyway?

The answer is simple, and deadly. It's all about MONEY!

Many of these retailers put price pressure on manufacturers like Menu
Foods in order to increase their profitability. The manufacturers then look
for shortcuts and low-cost suppliers like China in order to provide
cheaper "store-brand" pet food products. They are the final link
in this tragedy. AND, they claim they share no responsibility!

The good news is that the retailers are more sensitive to public
opinion than the other components of the pet food distribution chain.
They are dependent on the goodwill of the consumers for their sales.
As recalled items return to shelves, they attempt to reassure
us with promises of more testing and higher standards. Didn't they
say the same things before? We stil have no new laws
and no new labels to help us make intelligent decisions.

Let them know how you feel!
